A flash of green light, brilliant and blinding. I watched the man stagger backwards and felt a surge of glee. My cousin was finally gone, the filthy blood-traitor. He vanished through the shifting Veil and I began to leave, backing towards one of the doors. The boy’s shouts stopped me as he fought against the hold of the werewolf, Lupin.
“He’s not dead!”
The youth was screaming. Dementia lifted for a moment and I felt a wave of horror at what I’d done. I had killed my own cousin, one of my favorite relatives. Then the insanity was back and I let loose a cackle. Turning, I raced from the chamber, calling out mockingly. I could hear the boy following me.
“I killed Sirius Black! I killed Sirius Black!”
My cries echoed, ringing through corridors and rooms as I fled. Fled from myself as I twined around my mind. Black threaded around my brain, consuming me. Soon I wouldn’t be able to break away from the dark at all. Agony
